- Summary
- Ralph Lee, designer of masks and puppets, puppeteer, director, and sometime performer, fields questions about his career from an audience attending the exhibition devoted to his work at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. Mr. Lee speaks of his early productions in the 1970's at Bennington College in Vermont, where he was an instructor, his work in collaboraton with Theater for the New City which resulted in the establishment of the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade, and of more recent projects, such as annual performances at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, produced under the auspices of his Mettawee River Theater Company. He also discusses the theatrical functions of masks and puppets in a more general sense, as well as detailing his construction techniques.
- After Mr. Lee concludes his presentation, at 78:00, there is a brief blackout, which is followed by a video 'walking tour' of the Ralph Lee exhibit; Mr. Lee is not present, but, following a silent segment of about ten minutes, informal narration is occasionally supplied by Barbara Cohen-Stratyner, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts' Curator of Exhibitions.
