- Summary
- Opens with introductory remarks on Lillian Gish by Robert Marx and Mrs. Vincent (Brooke) Astor.
- Main speaker Irene Worth reads a reminiscence of Lillian Gish written for the occasion by John Gielgud, then contributes her own memories of Ms. Gish, citing their discussions of the problems and goals of acting. Ms. Worth reads from Ms. Gish's writings on the cinema, including passages describing D.W. Griffith's rehearsal process for their film Way down east, and bemoaning the "intrusion" of sound which ended silent movies. Ms. Worth quotes from letters to Ms. Gish from Noel Coward, and more extensively from letters of John Gielgud, who discusses mutual friends and his recent projects.
