- Description
- 1 videocassette (VHS, NTSC) (33 min.) : sd., col.; 1/2 in.
- Summary
- Ballerina Karen Kain discusses different aspects of her career. Topics include her interactions with her partners, among them Erik Bruhn, Frank Augustyn, and especially Rudolf Nureyev, whom she praises for his contributions to the National Ballet of Canada in general as well as for his aid in helping her grow as a dancer. She recalls her childhood decision to become a ballerina, and her determined pursuit of this goal despite injuries and other setbacks. Her self-imposed perfectionism, the question of her retirement, and her opinions on dance-related eating disorders are also discussed. Brief performance excerpts show her dancing the coda of the Don Quixote pas de deux, the final moments of Swan lake, James Kudelka's The actress, and the opening pas d'action of Giselle with Frank Augustyn.
