- "Dancing for Life" was a major gala benefit held on October 5, 1987, at the New York State Theater to raise money for AIDS care and research. Organized by choreographer Jerome Robbins, the event featured thirteen dance troupes, such as New York City Ballet, Alvin Ailey, Mark Morris Dance Group, etc. The benefit successfully raised more than $1.2 million for the cause.
