- Summary
- Collecting and assembling materials to carry out imaginative ideas is part of the normal development of children. This fully illustrated book offers many avenues by which this kind of childhood experience can be brought to the classroom and how the teacher can help children develop it as an important aspect of learning. Written by an art teacher for classroom and and art teachers, it also explores the world of the child and suggests a variety of methods and media the teacher can use to encourage creative growth. There are four sections to the book, each offering material in a different subject area: Wire sculpture, Constructions (including stabiles and mobiles), Collage, and To The Teacher. Each section is organized by educational levels from elementary through junior high and offers suggestions for using collage and construction in a wide variety of individual and classroom activities. The text, written with skill and simplicity, is highlighted with superb photographs of work by children of various ages and from several parts of the country.
