"Each performer is who he is (e.g. performing musician, dancer, singer), but he is also performing a piece of theatrical music...A performer may include other performers in his gamut..."
"This is a composition indeterminate of its performance. Time-brackets are given within which an action may be made. These actions are from a gamut of twenty nouns and/or verbs chosen by the performer...Means are supplied for the answering of four questions with regard to the activities within any one time bracket. The composing means were the materials of Fontana mix" (cf. Notes on compositions II in John Cage: Writer / Kostelanetz).
