Summary
Documentary on the First International Festival of Movement and Dance on the Volga, which included participants from Russia, North America, and western Europe, and offered lectures, classes, workshops, and performances, the last held in the Theater for Young Spectators in Yaroslavl. Classes and workshops in movement improvisation and contact improvisation, both a novelty to Russian participants, were a prominent part of the festival, and are highlighted in this recording. Performance footage features young Russian dancers in ballet, contemporary, Duncan, and folk dance works ; Duncan dancer Patricia Adams ; rap (hip-hop) dancers in a piece created with Puerto Rican dancer-choreographer Gloria Llompart ; Marian Sarach, Katherine Labelle, Mary Ganzon, and Beth Soll in their own works ; and others.
