Summary
Documentary on the careers of dancers Ekaterina Maximova and Vladimir Vasil'ev. Filmed excerpts portray them in rehearsals and performances dating from their youth to the present day, including the ballets The nutcracker, Laurencia, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet (chor: Lavrovsky), Spartacus, Walpurgis Night, Chopiniana (in which Vasil'ev partners Galina Ulanova), Le corsaire pas de deux, Football (which Vasil'ev rehearses with choreographer Asaf Messerer), The sleeping beauty, and Giselle. Extended excerpts show the couple rehearsing and performing Vasil'ev's ballet An︠i︡uta, and they are seen in recent performances of Goleizovsky's Russian dance, Chopiniana, and Béjart's Romeo and Juliet. Vasil'ev coaches Paris Opéra Ballet dancers Eric Vu An and Richard Wilk respectively in the male variation from Le corsaire pas de deux and Albrecht's Act II variation from Giselle; Maximova coaches Elisabeth Maurin in Aurora's Act I variation from The sleeping beauty. Speaking in Russian (subtitled in English), Vasil'ev discusses the qualities of a true dancer. The couple is also glimpsed in private life.
