- 1 videodisc (PAL) (48 min.) : sd., col. with b&w sequences; 4 3/4 in.
- Summary
- Documentary about the ballerina Rosella Hightower. Her reminiscences include her childhood and early training in Oklahoma, her studies with Mikhail Fokin in New York, her work with Léonide Massine on Nobilissima visione, her appearances at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, her association with Antony Tudor in the early days of Ballet Theatre, and her tenure in the Marquis de Cuevas's company. She recalls some of the roles she created, including Salome, which she choreographed; Bronislava Nijinska's Rondo capriccioso; and John Taras's Piège de lumière; and discusses her partnerships with Frederic Franklin and André Eglevsky. In addition to archival footage of the Charleston, which was popular in her youth, dance excerpts depict Hightower rehearsing Salome on a rooftop, dancing Aurora in the de Cuevas company's production of The sleeping beauty, rehearsing members of Dance Theatre of Harlem in her restaging of Rondo capriccioso, and dancing in Giselle, Piège de lumière, and unidentified present-day performances.
