Summary

Choreographer Garth Fagan, artistic director of the Bucket Dance Theatre, discusses his work on the New York Shakespeare Festival's 1988 production of A midsummer night's dream, directed by A. J. Antoon, with Carl Lumbly, the actor who played Oberon. They talk about the different demands of acting and dancing, and the benefits that actors and dancers may gain by studying each other's art. Fagan also talks about the formation of Bucket Dance Theatre, and his other choreographic ventures, such as the creation of Footprints dressed in red for Dance Theatre of Harlem. Excerpts show Lumbly in action in A midsummer night's dream, and the Bucket Dance Theatre in Fagan's Prelude, From before, and Mask mix masque.
