Summary
Guests are three dancers whose experiences span two or more companies: Daniel Baudendistel (American Ballet Theatre/Lar Lubovitch Dance Company), Susan Hadley (Harry/independent company/Mark Morris Dance Group), and William Whitener (Joffrey Ballet/Twyla Tharp and Dancers). Among the topics they discuss are their decisions to change companies, gender roles in partnering, the comparative technical demands of modern dance and ballet, the interaction of choreographer and dancer(s) in creating pieces, and dancers' involvement in company management. Hadley's choreography is represented through excerpts from Reunion (created with Bradley Sowash); Fields, a videodance collaboration with Sowash and James Byrne; and Near miss. She is also seen performing in Morris's Minuet and allegro in G and Pièces en concert, the latter a trio with Morris and Rob Besserer. Whitener is seen with Christine Uchida in excerpts from Tharp's Bach duet, from the telecast Confessions of a corner maker.
