Summary
Choreographers Sarah Skaggs, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar of Urban Bush Women, and Miriam Mahdaviani of the New York City Ballet talk about various aspects of their work as choreographers, including the challenges faced by a choreographer who also runs his or her own company, opportunities and support for creating new works, the influence of critics and criticism, and the male domination of the choreographic field. Zollar and Mahdaviani discuss the advantages offered by workshops such as Barbara Weisberger's Carlisle Project. Dance excerpts include Mahdaviani's Adagio for two, performed by members of the New York City Ballet; Zollar's Anarchy, wild women and Dinah, performed by Urban Bush Women, and Skaggs's Noh body.
