Summary
Three dancers born in Latin America, Beatriz Rodriguez (Puerto Rico), Alfredo Corvino (Uruguay), and Michael Uthoff (Chile), discuss dance in their respective countries and the special perspectives they bring to their work in the U.S. as a result of their Latin American backgrounds. They explore various types of interchange between Latin America and the U.S.: for example, Uthoff's use of Chilean folk music in his works, and the Chilean interest in breakdancing. They also discuss political expression in art, as manifested in Uthoff's Murmurs of the stream and Kurt Jooss's The green table. Dance excerpts depict Matthew Nash's Allure, danced by Rodriguez and Donn Edwards, and Uthoff's Romeo and Juliet, danced by the Hartford Ballet.
