Dr. Tom Novella and Dr. Joseph D'Amico, two doctors who specialize in foot problems, and dancer Merrill Ashley of the New York City Ballet discuss ways in which dancers can prevent or recover from foot injuries. Among the topics they discuss are the fitting and preparation of pointe shoes, the use of orthotics, treatments for skin problems such as blisters, daily care, and strengthening exercises. In Esoterica balletica, Harvey Lichtenstein, the president of Brooklyn Academy of Music, enumerates the good points of dance.
