Summary
Ballet teacher Gabriela Taub-Darvash and modern dance teacher Dorothy Vislocky compare viewpoints about dance training. Among the topics they discuss are: whether training can destroy artistry, how the teacher can help the student develop qualities beyond technical facility, the use of the mirror in training, and developing the sense of feeling movement. Each teacher demonstrates her ideas with the help of a student. In Esoterica balletica, Harvey Lichtenstein, president of Brooklyn Academy of Music, relates anecdotes of his days in the corps de ballet of New York City Opera, performing in Aïda and Hansel and Gretel.
