Summary
Javanese shadow puppet play based on an episode from the Hindu epic The Mahābhārata. The supremacy of the gods is challenged by the demon Niwatakawaca and his underling Mamangmurka, who takes the form of a boar. The gods choose the hero Arjuna as their champion, and persuade him to leave his meditative retreat. After defeating both demons, Arjuna is wedded to the celestial nymph Supraba. Audience members were invited to move about during the performance to view the puppets from the dalang's side, and their silhouettes intermittently cross the screen.
