Former dancer Sheldon Schwartz recalls his eight years with Heinz Spoerli's Basel Ballet, and compares government funding of the arts in Europe and the U.S. He also talks about his career change to company manager of the Pennsylvania Ballet, and discusses the role of the administrator in balancing the needs of artists and management.
