- Summary
- A Javanese court dance, Lawung Ageng (Great lance dance) is based on military training exercises. Male dancers use large lances in various strong male (gagah) styles, according to the military rank they represent. Two clown-attendants dance behind the highest ranking dancers mimicking their movement. The dance takes place in an open-air pavilion within the Kraton (palace).
