[Begins abruptly.] Rita Katz Farrell as moderator introduces the panelists and the publications with which they are affiliated: [Donald] Glenne Currie (United Press International), Stan Goldstein (Camden Courier Post), Allen Hughes (New York Times), Richard Philp (Dance magazine) and Chris Williams (Washington Post); the panelists, in response to Farrell's and the audience's questions, each speak about the importance of dance to his publication's audience including the scope of coverage; editorial policies with respect to dance writing including submissions from non-staff writers; feature stories and reviews including their relative popularity; defining "dance writers" and "dance critics;" The New York Times' current criteria for hiring dance critics and Dance magazine's attempts to develop writers [ends abruptly but continues on streaming audio file 2].
