  • Interview with Glenn White conducted by John Gruen on December 1,1972 in New York City. This interview may have been intended as research for a chapter in John Gruen's book, The private world of ballet (New York, Viking Press), but the book does not include a chapter about White.
  • Sound quality is fair. There is considerable ambient noise due to the fact that the interview is being conducted in a restaurant. There are also a few short gaps.

Summary
Disc 1, approximately 48 minutes. John Gruen speaks with Glenn White about his career at the Joffrey Ballet including White's family background; his dance training; the circumstances of his joining the Joffrey Ballet; his friendship with Gary Chryst; his activities outside of the Joffrey including guest appearances in Washington, D.C. and participating in the international ballet competition in Varna [International Ballet Festival, Varna, Bulgaria]; more on his becoming a member of the Joffrey Ballet including some of his first roles; the Joffrey Ballet as a company that has a relatively large number of good roles for male dancers; Robert Joffrey; Gerald Arpino; his comfort with partnering, including, for example, with Starr [Danias];in [Arpino's work] Chabriesque the Joffrey Ballet's reputation; more on Robert Joffrey in particular his relationship with his dancers; the complex interpersonal relationships among the company members; the beginning of his disillusionment with the company [ends abruptly].
