Summary
Reporter Cheryl Alexander investigates crack use by African American women and its effect on babies born to crack addicted women. Three women discuss their addiction, pregnancy, and continuing recovery with Alexander, who also talks to doctors, nurses, social workers and other professionals about drug abuse during pregnancy, crack babies, recovery programs, and often about the women themselves. The program also examines crack babies abandoned in the hospital by their mothers, one family who adopted such a child, two grandmothers who are raising their grandchildren because their daughters had drug problems, and a woman who was imprisoned during the last months of her pregnancy because of her crack addiction.
