Comes from a seafaring family; quartermaster on Yarmouth/Frederick Douglass; describes NYC-Havana voyage (1920?) and problems that occurred; Jamaica-Costa Rica-Bocas del Toro tour to sell stock in Black Star Line; Capt. Cockburn; 2nd voyage to Jamaica and problems that arose; impressions of Marcus Garvey; problems with ship; wastefulness and money trouble; no. of crew; sea work after leaving Black Star Line and prejudice encountered in S. Africa; impressions of Marcus Garvey; employment in NYC; memories of Harlem; his children.
