Summary
Presents the history of the coal mining camp of Buxton, Iowa where the majority of the residents were black. Former residents, Dorothy Schwieder of Iowa State University and still photographs describe the living and working conditions in Buxton, where the Consolidation Coal Company set up a residential community for its workers and their families. The company moved its operations after World War One and today nothing remains of the community except the Buxton Club, an organization established to preserve Buxton's history and cemetery.
